A Solidarity Message from Thailand

As the Representative of Thailand to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights, I am sending all of you this message of solidarity for the occasion of 2009 Manila Pride March which will be held on the 5th of December.

I firmly believe that “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”. I also affirm what was set out further in the UDHR that discrimination against any people on any basis including “sex” is forbidden and every one shall equally enjoy human rights and fundamental freedoms. By “sex” I interpret it to cover sexual orientation. No man and woman shall be condemned nor denied of his or her rights only because he or she is or chooses to be different from the rest of the society.

As ASEAN endeavors to “respecting for fundamental freedoms, the promotion and protection of human rights and the promotion of social justice” as set forth in the principles of the ASEAN Charter, the rights of everyone has to be guaranteed and the space has to be equally created without which the building of ASEAN Community could not be fully realized.

In solidarity,

Sriprapha Petcharamesree
